Kerala - Indian Restaurant

Tuba and I went to Kerala, an Indian restaurant, for dinner last night.  Several factors make Kerala an absolute top experience for Zürich GF dining:

1. All GF foods are indicated on the menu with the GF symbol.
2. Most of the menu is GF - all main courses, some appetizers and sides (not the naan, of course) and a couple of desserts.
3. The staff was knowledgable. Tuba mentioned when we ordered that she was GF and the servers made a couple of helpful comments throughout the evening.
4. (actually should be 1.) The food was really good. I had pekora (not GF) and Tuba had a spicy soup that reminded me of a red thai curry sauce with indian spices, we shared chicken tikka and tandoori vegetables - flavored and spiced nicely with a flavored rice and raita.
5. At 19:00 on Sunday night, the restaurant was pleasantly full with a lively feeling without being too loud. There were young couples and families with small children.

Muffin Bake-Off

Tuba and I had a muffin bake-off today. Tuba baked these Apple Oatmeal Muffins replacing the 1 cup of flour with 1 cup of Thomasmehl and added extra milk by feel until the batter reached a nice consistency (the Thomasmehl dried out the batter). We used Bob's Red Mill GF Oatmeal we brought in from the states. The muffins had a nice sweet apple cinnamon taste and were favored by the kids and me over the blueberry muffins I baked following the Joy of Cooking recipe.

Getting Started - IG Zöliakie Restaurant List

One of the first places that we looked for gluten free friendly restaurants was the IG Zöliakie Restaurant List. They list isn't huge, only about 6 or so Zurich restaurants, but still helped us to get started. One of my hopes is that the blog can supplement this list.

Introduction

My partner was diagnosed with celiac disease a little over one year ago. We have been meaning to start a blog about our experiences and this is it. We are an international couple (CH / US) so we will probably be writing in both English and German.

We plan to post mostly about restaurant visits but will certainly add other tidbits (cooking, general thoughts etc...) as the blog progresses. Happy reading (and eating).
